- Debugger for MySQL has an extremely user-friendly and customizable user interface with multiple panes for variables, watches, code, results and other elements. The interface enables you to get an instant overview of the code and assess your options without spending too much time on configuring your workspace. Code editing will become much easier with code assistance and highlighting options of the built-in editor. You can instantly switch between debugging tools and the code to make quick fixes and test them right away
- Created by developers for developers, this interface will take minutes to get used to and won’t let you get lost in the jungle of menus and commands
- Breakpoints are an efficient method of streamlining and accelerating the debugging process. To stop the execution of your code on a specific line, place a breakpoint on it by clicking the gutter area on the left. Each breakpoint can have its own activation conditions – one or several Boolean expressions - that should be met during code execution for the process to be brought to a halt. Debugger for MySQL provides everything necessary to quickly set and edit breakpoints and efficiently control the execution of your stored MySQL procedures or functions
- Watches are absolutely indispensable when it comes to serious debugging. Watches enable you to monitor any number of expressions and variables in the current stack frame context. As the lines of code are executed, the context changes and so do the variables, so the data is updated dynamically. To set a watch, either type an expression or select an expression, variable or another element you want to trace and use the “Run -> Add Watch” command of the main menu (or press the Alt+F5 hotkey combination). Please note that you can even use expressions without variables in watches – for instance, current_date() will return the current date
- Debugger for MySQL allows you to evaluate any expression when code execution is paused or a breakpoint is hit. To do that, use the “Run -> Evaluate” command of the main menu (or press the Alt+F7 key combination) and type the necessary expression or paste a code fragment. Don’t forget that the expression will be evaluated against the current execution context
- The concept behind the SQL Window is similar to that of the Expression Evaluator. However, this is a much more powerful testing and debugging tool offered exclusively by Debugger for MySQL. Unlike the Expression Evaluator, SQL Window is capable of returning whole data sets instead of a single value and allows you to execute any SQL commands in the same connection, transaction and, most importantly, current execution context. For any given variable, you can view its value, change it or execute an arbitrary expression with it acting as a parameter
- The SQL window works even if the debugging process has not been started. In this case, however, it will operate in the normal mode and the current context will not be processed. This feature gives you the freedom of writing arbitrary SQL commands as if they are located inside a procedure or function. The SQL window is also a fully-functional console for SQL commands – even the ones that are run outside an execution context. This unique feature of Debugger for MySQL will be highly appreciated by professional developers, as it really gears them up for ultra-fast development and allows them to get a wider perspective on their code structure
- This window displays information about the debugging process and the results of commands sent to the server. Double-click an element to jump to the line of code that triggered the corresponding event
- If the server returned a data set, it can be viewed using the “Show Results” command from the element’s context menu
- The call stack in Debugger for MySQL works similarly to call stacks available in other development environments. Whenever a breakpoint is hit or code execution is stopped, you can use the Call Stack panel to examine the current threads, their state, variables and their values. The stack also displays the parameters that were passed to functions or procedures. Also, you can jump to the underlying source code with a single click of your mouse
