Storybook is a free, scene-based open source software for creative writers, novelists and authors that helps to keep the overview over the strands while writing a book, a novel or a story. Storybook assists you in structuring your book.
Storybook has two views: the chronological view and the book view. The chronological shows the scenes sorted by date. The book view in contrast shows the scenes sorted by scene numbers, as you would read it in the final book. Of course in both views the scenes and there related informations can be edited any time.
Storybook helps to keep the overview, especially for complex stories with two or more strands. You imagine of StorYBook as some kind of a dynamic mind map.
Strands and strand links: Each scene belongs to a primary strand. Optionally other related, secondary strands can be linked to a scene.
Person management: Add, edit or remove characters and assign them to the related scenes.
Location management: Add, edit or remove locations and assign them to the related scenes.
Parts: Large projects can be split into well arranged parts.
Informations: Scene related informations of the currently selected part are shown as well as warnings for missing scenes or scenes existing twice. A overview list shows all present strands, persons and locations.
Adjustable view: The chronological view can be resized any time to fit to screen, or to get a better overview if many strands are defined. Even more working space is available if you hide the information panel with a simple click on the tool bar.
Instant save: Because StorYBook uses an embedded database to store data (and not a file) each input entered is saved in an instant. Even if the program crashes, you won't loose any data.

- I downloaded and used a version 1. copy free copy for about two years. I liked it so I decided to buy it. The version that I had was not compatible with the new versions. I asked for help from support and they ignored my email. Then when I sent an email complaining about it. This is the email I received back from support.... READ IT AND THINK BEFORE YOU BUY. You missed more than 2 1/2 ! years of updates, and now you wonder why you can't open the file anymore? From your text below "Yes, I didn't update. Yes, it is my fault. " Why should the costs be on our site then? WHY? Updates are granted from one MAJOR version to another, as common in software. Even Microsoft do it that way, Apple, IBM etc. Keeping your bought version was YOUR responsibility. But you did not. Instead you blame others FOR YOUR MISTAKES. Do you think you can go to the bank and ask for your money because you lost it? That's not how the world works! You are the only one to blame.
