Software Description:
Sitemonitor monitors sites using ping (icmp&tcpip echo) & browser load times.
Main Program
Up to 10 sites / pages can be polled sequentially at a specified time period. Monitoring is performed using ping (smtp) and (echo) as well as browser load (cached or uncached). Sitemonitor creates performance graphs using a benchmark site for comparison. Sites that are down or unreachable are logged and can be emailed to a specified address at a regular time interval.
Site status can be flagged using either a pop up alert window or voice. The voice alert makes use of TTS (text to speech) - Windows built in speech API (SAPI). You will obviously need a sound card and speaker for voice notification to work. The quality of speech in Windows Vista is very good. With a bit of tweaking in XP you will be able to achieve acceptable speech quality. Sitemonitor can also be set to run in silent mode with simple pop up notification if preferred.
The last 10 ping times for each monitored site are shown graphically with colour coded speed bands. The internet connection or control site is also colour coded to give you an indication of network traffic consistency. Browser load times (if load monitoring is on) are also displayed for either cached or uncached site loads. The primary url or control site is used as a benchmark for tests and to monitor internet connectivity.
Sitemonitor pings (icmp or echo) the control site every minute when a test is not running. It does not 'dial out' it simply attempts to connect to the target url and notifies you when SM cannot contact the control site - for this reason the control site needs to be highly reliable. We suggest using Yahoo or Google or similar site.
SM Browser or 'snap shot' viewer
The application monitors up to 12 sites or pages simultaneously using browser load only. Sites or pages that don't load correctly are red flagged. This application gives the user a quick status 'snap shot' of all monitored sites or pages. This application can only be run in conjunction with the Sitemonitor main program.

- Sitemonitor monitors website 'UP' status using both ping (ICMP and TCP/IP (echo) port methods for more info see - 23) and or http browser load at a user specified time period. It supports pop up, voice and email notification
- Assuming the internet connection is up if a server does not respond to ping using ICMP or TCP/IP port methods then it is almost certainly down. Couple this to HTML content load testing and Sitemonitor becomes a very useful and reliable tool for monitoring any internet based server whether it be a web, mail, ftp, proxy or audio/video server
- Sitemonitor measures the cached or uncached load times of web pages and can be used to do comparative page tests for an entire site. Load speeds are useful for optimizing each section of a site
- Up to 10 websites or pages are polled sequentially at a specified time delay. Sites tested using browser load are loaded into a mini browser window (requires a minimum of Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher). We strongly suggest you update IE to the latest version and install all required updates and components such as flash etc. that are required for your site to function correctly
- Only once the entire target page is loaded is the site deemed to be 'UP' or active. This is clearly a far more accurate and useful measurement of a website's status than simply using ping. A server might be up but not serving pages correctly
- The mini html window supports high levels of security and will intercept and block pop ups from most sites. Ping, cached or uncached load times are recorded for each test site and graphically presented for use in client reports etc
