Report SpywareProcess Logger 1.1
Software Description:
Process Logger - A lightweight detector that alerts you when applications start and finish
Process Logger detects when an application starts or finishes on Windows 7, Vista or XP operating systems. This gives users a running history of what code has been executed and when it did which is very helpful in back tracing virus/spyware/malware infections.
You can use this information to understand usage patterns of other users on the computer and even particular programs. Knowing that a particular application launches "mini processes" to do certain tasks can help you determine if there is a particular application doing things it shouldn't be doing on your system.
An important design goal of Process Logger is that it's very light on resources and easy to use. No one wants a security tool to impact their day to day running of their computer.
Windows calls each application in memory a "process" which is where Process Logger gets its name. Process Logger shows all process information on its main screen and also saves it to disk so that you can have many months, or even years of application history.
How does Process Logger work?
Process Logger has two distinct methods to catch process execution and finish. The first is polling, whereby Process Logger continually polls the system to determine whether something has launched. By default it does this 10 times per second which will catch programs that last even for only a tenth of a second.
The second method is a kernel mode system driver which hooks directly into the system. This ensures every process is captured and recorded.
What benefits do I get by running Process Logger?
Running Process Logger continually in the background will ensure that if you are ever attacked by a virus, spyware, trojan, etc that you will be able to backtrack to where it happened and why. This will aid in cleaning up the problem.
